| 8:00 AM | CANCELLED -- PRE25: Firefighter SurvivalJody Reece, Lt, Cobb County Fire and Emergency Services Training Division Marietta, GA ![]() This is a hands-on Preconference class that will be held at the Convention Center. Firefighters face many hazards in the line of duty. Structural firefighting presents unique hazards that firefighters must face daily. Among these hazards are: structural collapse, sudden fire extension, explosion, becoming lost and becoming entangled. In some cases, firefighters find themselves in situations where they have to rely on their own skills to survive and escape. This course is designed to prepare firefighters to perform self rescue when things go wrong. The Firefighter Survival Course consists of four segments: ? May Day Classroom - Here students learn the basic concept of initiating a ?May Day? call and the concepts of self rescue. ? May Day Drill (using Survival Maze) - Firefighters develop and practice the skills necessary to initiate a May Day call, and then perform self rescue in a maze designed to duplicate the hazards encountered in an actual structure fire. ? Disentanglement - Firefighters learn about common entanglement hazards encountered in structure fires, how to avoid them, and how to escape them. ? Window Bailouts ? Firefighters learn and practice techniques to escape upper floors of structures. Required: Full Turnout Gear (NFPA P.P.E.) and SCBA. |
